COP26: how are vulnerable nations reacting to the climate conversation?

A call for help to the most vulnerable countries at the 26th UN Climate change conference

In the final week of Glasgow COP26 (United Nations Climate Change Conference), leaders of vulnerable countries are imploring others to keep their promises to support nations at risk of facing life-altering challenges due to climate change.

Vulnerable countries face floods, wildfires and rising seas, which could put many lives and livelihoods at risk. “It is not just future generations at risk,” says Sonam Wangdi, chair of the LDC (Least Developed Countries) Group, representing 46 nations. “Already homes are being lost to sea level rise in the Pacific. Climate change-induced famine is taking lives in Madagascar. And floods have displaced millions in Bangladesh.”

The LDC group is looking for improved commitments to bolder 2030 emission-reductions targets.

At Children Believe, we’re committed to doing our part to create sustainable solutions for children, families and communities. In India, we’ve supported the development of 1,000 acres of wasteland into cultivated land and trained youth on how to create safe environments in their community, among other activities.

About Children Believe

Children Believe works globally to empower children to dream fearlessly, stand up for what they believe in — and be heard. For 60+ years, we’ve brought together brave young dreamers, caring supporters and partners, and unabashed idealists. Together, we’re driven by a common belief: creating access to education — inside and outside of classrooms — is the most powerful tool children can use to change their world.

About Childfund Alliance

A member of ChildFund Alliance, Children Believe is part of a global network of child-focused development organizations working to create opportunities for children and youth, their families and communities. ChildFund helps nearly 23-million children and their families in 70 countries overcome poverty and underlying conditions that prevent children from achieving their full potential. We work to end violence against children; provide expertise in emergencies and disasters to ease the harmful impact on children and their communities; and engage children and youth to create lasting change and elevate their voices in decisions that affect their lives.
