Boy wins award for his innovation to prevent spread of COVID-19

How a child is bringing positive change to his community and country

Congratulations to Stephen Wamukota, a nine-year-old Kenyan boy who was the youngest winner of a state award for his unique handwashing machine, which was celebrated among other notable contributions to the country’s fight against COVID-19.

The machine, powered by a foot pedal, allows the user to wash their hands without touching anything. “I had the idea of developing this machine, and after I started, I began to run out of materials and approached my father who assisted me to complete it,” the young inventor is quoted as saying by Nairobi News.

At Children Believe we encourage children to use their voice to make positive change in their community and commend Stephen for using innovation and keen leadership skills to keep his family safe from the spread of COVID-19.
