A gift of opportunity for generations to come

Why one couple decided to make a donation to last a lifetime

Working in Belize and Colombia as a banker in the ’50s, Aubrey Bell met the richest of the rich and the poorest of the poor.

Each day, he saw dozens of malnourished children drinking dirty water from a pipe hundreds of people accessed. He couldn’t believe it. These children needed to be taken care of — Aubrey felt compelled to help.

“We should always be there for children, for whatever they need — whether it’s water, education, health, emergency relief or anything else,” he says.

That’s how Aubrey started sponsoring a child through Christian Children’s Fund of Canada (now Children Believe). It didn’t stop there: after he met and married Hilda, the two went on to sponsor four children over the years. For this missionary couple, it felt right to give these children the same opportunities as a child in Canada.

So, when it came time to update their Wills including Children Believe was a natural extension of a lifetime spent helping them. Aubrey’s children were grown up and independent and Hilda had always regarded her sponsored children as her legacy.

For the Bells, a gift in their Will is a way to support work they’re passionate about long after they’re gone.

“We realized how little you really have to do to help someone. You know how much you can help in your lifetime. Why not continue? The need doesn’t go away just because you are gone. You might as well do something good,” they note.

Learn more today about how you can help — just like Aubrey and Hilda.
